Real Estate
Venice Beach was a town founded to be a resort town, and the real estate market is naturally vibrant in the area. It is home to some of the most expensive property in the nation, with many houses worth more than a million dollars.
One of the key places for expensive property is near the Ocean Front Walk, in an area that is shaped like a long thin rectangle parallel to the beach. This tight grid of mixed houses and commercial developments is less than a block from the sand, as well as within walking distance of downtown. The houses on the end of the development often have great views that overlook the beach, making it a hot spot for real estate agents and buyers alike. In this area, houses can be two or three million dollars apiece, and perhaps $10 million for beachfront property. Another notable area is near the canals, which are modeled in a grid after Venice and allow every house in the area to have water in its backyard. These are arguably some of the most beautiful houses in Venice Beach, mixing Venetian and modern architecture. Property near the canals are also at a premium, with the majority being million-dollar homes. There are also plenty of other options near downtown, all within walking distance to the shore and convenient for the home-owners.
For those homes farther away from the ocean and downtown, they can often be obtained for a great price. Many homes can be available for $500,000 – $700,000, which is competitively priced for a popular tourist beach town. While one may have to drive to the beach or take the bus, traffic is not a problem, and one can also enjoy a quieter side of Venice Beach. Furthermore, with the recent United States recession and rise in foreclosure rates, it is now easier than ever to land a good deal on a great home in California.
Part of the reason that Venice Beach is such a popular place for home is the proximity to the numerous attractions and resources of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. The town is next to the Santa Monica Pier, as well as a short drive away from the corporate and job opportunities of downtown Los Angeles. Hollywood and Disneyland are also nearby for those who are looking for a good time away from the ocean, and there are plenty of shopping opportunities around the big city. Even if one does not own a car, the city of Los Angeles provides public transportation that can take you to many of the attractions and popular areas around the city. And while Venice Beach is close enough to the city to enjoy its full benefits, it is still far enough to escape the noise and commotion and keep a quiet, comfortable home. With its perfect mix of attractions, and the numerous real estate options of Venice Beach, ranging from the luxurious to the competitively priced, there is something for everyone.
